The World Energy Council has announced that Brazil has officially joined its global community as a new member committee.
According to the World Energy Council, Brazil’s incorporation is a momentous occasion, signifying a strengthened commitment to more effective cross-border and cross-boundary collaboration on progressing faster, fairer, and more far-reaching energy transitions.
Dr Angela Wilkinson, secretary general and CEO of the World Energy Council, commented on the announcement: “We are thrilled to welcome Brazil as our newest Member Committee and leadership community. The World Energy Council values Brazil’s contributions in making faster, fairer and more far-reaching energy transitions happen and in enriching our visionary and practical impact agenda.”
Luiz Fernando Vianna, chair of the Brazilian Member Committee, said: “I am confident that collaboration and knowledge exchange with local members will enrich the discussion on topics related to the energy transition and contribute to the common cause of a more sustainable future. I also look forward to engaging with our international counterparts next April as we bring our Brazilian delegation to Rotterdam for the Council’s 26th World Energy Congress.”

This announcement was made during an event held in Rio de Janeiro’s Fundação Getulio Vargas to showcase the importance of Brazil’s involvement in the World Energy Council.
Brazil’s membership will enable the country to engage in crucial discussions and bridge global divides, ensuring that the region’s unique challenges and opportunities are appropriately addressed within the global energy community.
Nelson Leite, Executive Director of the Brazilian Member Committee, confirmed that a significant delegation, including three speakers from Brazil will be attending the upcoming World Energy Congress in Rotterdam in April 2024.
The World Energy Council is a preeminent international organisation dedicated to promoting the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all. The addition of Brazil as a Member Committee strengthens the Council’s mission and reinforces the need for collective action in the pursuit of an energy future that features people and communities at the heart of transitions.
