The World Energy Council is thrilled to announce that Brazil has officially joined its global community as a new Member Committee. This significant addition was celebrated yesterday, 13 November 2023 during an event held in Rio de Janeiro’ Fundação Getulio Vargas, where Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council, was in attendance.
Brazil’s incorporation into the World Energy Council is a momentous occasion, signifying a strengthened commitment to more, and more effective, cross-border and cross-boundary collaboration on progressing faster, fairer, and more far-reaching energy transitions. The membership of Brazil further solidifies the Council’s role as the leading and most inclusive global energy platform for visionary leadership dialogue and practical knowledge exchange.
Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council, expressed her excitement about this development. “We are thrilled to welcome Brazil as our newest Member Committee and leadership community. The World Energy Council values Brazil’s contributions in making faster, fairer and more far-reaching energy transitions happen and in enriching our visionary and practical impact agenda. ”
Luiz Fernando Vianna, Chair of the Brazilian Member Committee, said “I am confident that collaboration and knowledge exchange with local members will enrich the discussion on topics related to the energy transition and contribute to the common cause of a more sustainable future. I also look forward to engaging with our international counterparts next April as we bring our Brazilian delegation to Rotterdam for the Council’s 26th World Energy Congress.”
The celebratory event held in Rio de Janeiro showcased the importance of Brazil’s involvement in the World Energy Council, with key stakeholders, industry leaders, and government officials present.
Brazil’s membership will enable the country to engage in crucial discussions and bridge global divides, ensuring that the region’s unique challenges and opportunities are appropriately addressed within the global energy community.
Nelson Leite, Executive Director of the Brazilian Member Committee, confirmed that a significant delegation, including three speakers, from Brazil will be attending the upcoming World Energy Congress in Rotterdam in April 2024.
